8 Must-Listen Podcasts For Entrepreneurs

Whether you are relaxing at home, stuck in traffic, crammed into a crowded train or even working out at the gym, listening to podcasts is one of the best ways to expand your knowledge, spark new ideas and find new techniques for managing your business.

There is a glut of podcasts available online across myriad topics and there are only so many hours in the day. To help wade through the choices, we have put together a list of our favourites, which offer a wide variety of voices on topics that entrepreneurs care about. Our top eight podcasts, in no particular order, are:

Masters of Scale with Reid Hoffman

1: Masters of Scale
The first podcast we are looking at is hosted by LinkedIn Co-Founder and Greylock Partner Reid Hoffman. It is an interesting concept that takes idea of a simple interview and adds a twist to create a compelling listening experience. The series has a detective story vibe, where Hoffman and his guests test his theories on how organisations can successfully scale.

Notable guests include Brian Chesky (Co-Founder of Air Bnb), Mark Zuckerberg (Founder of Facebook) and Sheryl Sandberg (COO of Facebook).

Each episode starts with a story to set the premise with the guests sharing their observations that either help to prove Hoffman’s theories or throw a spanner in the works with counterpoints to be refuted. The result is endlessly entertaining and often humorous while offering insights into the stories of famous founders in different industries and regions.

 

 

The Tim Ferriss Show

2: The Time Ferriss Show
Tim Ferriss is likely a name you have heard before, the bestselling author of The 4-Hour Workweek and his podcasts regularly top the iTunes business podcast list. He is renowned for sitting down with high profile quests and deconstructing what makes what makes them unique so he can devise a series of tactics, tools, and routines that listeners can adapt to improve their lives and businesses.

His interviews are long form, contain very few edits and tend to be laid back and friendly which results in a positive and candid look into the lives of his guests. He has interviewed over 200 guests including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Foxx, Edward Norton, Tony Robbins, Maria Popova, Peter Thiel, Marc Andreessen, Amanda Palmer, Malcolm Gladwell, Vince Vaughn, Rick Rubin, Jon Favreau and more.

3: AskJackD
Jack Delosa, author, investor, and CEO of The Entourage, answers all your questions around business, startups, entrepreneurship, and the importance of mindset, along with exclusive interviews with industry leaders and innovators.

4: Noah Kogan Presents
Noah Kagan is Chief Sumo at Sumo.com and AppSumo.com where he helps entrepreneurs with in-depth guides and strategies on how to start a business, marketing, and more. Prior to that, he worked at Intel, and was employee #30 at Facebook and #4 at Mint.

His Podcast, OKDork shares actionable business advice for entrepreneurs and other successful people including basics like recommended books and resources, topics like ‘the best ways to write a cold email’ and more in-depth topics like ‘how to deal with depression’. It is a casual discussion which refers to his own failures and successes over the years in a way that inspires with teachable moments.

HBR IdeaCast

5: HBR Cast
The Harvard Business Review hosts a long-standing weekly podcast featuring the leading thinkers in business and management. With over 600 episodes available to download, there are a wide range of topics on offer, not only about business topics but also other interesting interviews with well known personalities, CEOs, professors and experts.

Recent episodes have included a discussion with Nike Co-Founder, Phil Knight on innovation, culture and succession, an interview with Microsoft CEO Staya Nadella on rediscovering a company’s soul and a talk with retired US Astronaut Scott Kelly on his time working in space.

Manager Tools

6: Manager Tools
Manager Tools is a management consulting firm owned by Michael Auzenne and Mark Horstman, United States Military Academy graduates (West Point) and former Army officers. The weekly podcast provides advice to make managers effective and professionals productive. With strategies for dealing with every situation you find yourself in, big or small, the podcast lays exactly how to proceed, in detail. From hiring to managing your admin and from performance reviews to body odour, there are podcasts with ways to expand your skillset and become the best manager you can be.

Future Grind

7: Future Grind
This next podcast is not specifically about business but its topics have ramifications that can have implications on how you approach the future and, on the whole, are a fascinating look at what is just around the corner. Future Grind explores this future through the aperture of science, technology, business, politics, and philosophy.

Hosted by Ryan O’Shea a renowned television producer, entrepreneur, and futurist speaker, the podcast features interviews with innovators and thought leaders from fields that create the technology of the future. Topics include everything from Space Exploration and AI through to Biohacking and Transhumanism. A window to the future, this podcast frequently looks at the direction the human species is headed and can provide ideas on where to take your business to accommodate.

StartUp

8: Startup
StartUp is a funny and insightful podcast hosted by Alex Blumberg and Lisa Chow. The series started as a serialised tale of the highs and lows experienced by Blumberg when starting his company, Gimlet Media with the first episode featuring the pitch of the company to venture investor Chris Sacca. The second season is about a new startup, a dating company called ‘Dating Ring’ and the third season follows a new business each episode.

The podcast is hugely successful with around 1million downloads per month and is even in the works to become a television series starring Zach Braff. The podcast is a charming look at what a new start up can expect and the ways that Blumberg overcame his challenges to become a success. There are lessons to be learn and applied to your own business while also being thoroughly entertained in the process.
